Dark Matter Study

Rare gases, particularly xenon and argon, are used in dark matter studies. These gases are employed in detectors designed to search for interactions between dark matter particles and ordinary matter. When a dark matter particle interacts with a rare gas atom, it produces a small amount of light or ionization that can be detected. The use of rare gases in these detectors helps to enhance sensitivity and reduce background noise, allowing scientists to better understand the nature and properties of dark matter.
